I am a freelance photojournalist and journalist born in Vila Real de Trás-os-Montes, Portugal, in the glorious 80's.

I began working as a wire reporter in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv while teaching myself how to shoot and visually document my written stories. Since then, my reporting has taken me from covering my home country Portugal, amidst the European economic crisis, to the Middle East, reporting on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as well as on less visible issues in the region, such as on African asylum seekers in Israel. More recently, I covered Kashmir during the 70th anniversary of the arrival of Indian troops to the territory, in the longest case of military rule over a civilian population and one of the least covered of such cases.

I'm interested in cross border social and political dynamics and in how collective narratives intersect and/or clash along national and communal lines within countries and societies. I'm also drawn to unsuspected agents within those narratives, such as those portrayed in my in depth series about former Israeli soldiers now fighting to help end Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories.

I was named by TIME Magazine one of  '34 Female Photographers to Follow'.

Both my photography and writing have been published in Al Jazeera English, Newsweek [Japan], Foreign Affairs [US], Courrier International [Portugal], New Internationalist [UK], The Sydney Morning Herald [Australia], Woz Die Wochenzeitung [Switzerland], Profil [Austria], Il Reportage [Italy], Informatìon [Denmark], El País [Spain], The International Business Times, Aftenposten Innsikt [Norway], Haaretz [Israel], RFI Radio France Internationale, LUSA Portuguese News Agency, Público [Portugal], La Vanguardia [Spain], Diario ABC [Spain], among many others.
